Long-term fixed hydrophone acoustic recordings are available from the Center for Monitoring Research (CMR) at two sites located 43 miles west of Wake island on a seamount at 812 m depth and 95 miles southeast of Wake island on a seamount at 777 m depth. Near continuous recordings sampled at 320 Hz have been reviewed for the year 1997. Blue and fin whales are commonly detected. Recordings have been nearly continuous from 1997 to 2000, when the station was decommissioned with regard to nuclear test research. The lack of ship traffic, relatively deep water and 20 bit dynamic range result in high quality recordings.
